Taking Music Lessons

Sick Days Holidays/Vacation Spring Break Family Emergencies July and August

Lesson times are the same day and time each week unless otherwise pre-arranged.

Notification on lesson changes should occur as soon as known, arrangements made at the week's previous lesson is ideal, 24-48 hours is acceptable. Because most lessons are "in home" (in the student's home) student and parent cooperation is greatly appreciated. Weather conditions, traffic and timing can affect the exact arrival time of the teacher. Every effort is made to keep happen stances to a minimum, but where they occur allowances as outlined below will be given. In turn, where a student runs into similar problems, immediate notification is appreciated so adjustments can be made.

No refunds for delivered lessons.

No refunds for cancelled lessons.

"No shows"/"No one home"

If the teacher arrives for the lesson and no one is home or the student does not arrive at the prearranged location such as a school room there is still a charge. (The teacher must be paid if a student does not show up and no prior notice was given. Where possible a teacher will wait five minutes for the student to show and will then proceed to the next location.)

Where a student misses 2 consecutive lessons without notifying the Keynote Music Office, the student loses their reserved lesson time. (Students/Parents are responsible for payment of these 2 lessons.)

Same day notice of absence

Lesson times may be rescheduled or a single lesson fee credited to the following month in the case of valid emergencies. These include family illness, severe weather conditions, transportation problems, or similar situations. Messages may be left on the answering machine or the teacher can be contacted by cellular phone any time to advise that a student cannot attend their lesson. Make-up or rescheduled lessons are possible to provide a continuous musical education to the student. Credit for subsequent lessons may be applied.

Advance notice of absence

Keynote music understands that family vacations occur. Notification of when holidays will take place will result in a fee adjustment for the month/s involved. Also, the lesson time will be held for student return or can be listed for schedule change.

Keynote Music is closed

Keynote Music is currently closed Sundays, Christmas and Easter. Other closures will be posted.

Keynote Music makes every effort to ensure that 4 lessons per month are delivered to its students. There are several months where 5 lessons will be delivered. These months make up for those where only 3 lessons are delivered such as in December.

Keynote Music does not currently charge for this extra lesson. This lesson will also make up for days missed by students for personal reasons.

Illness or injury may occur preventing the student from his musical education. Contact Keynote Music and management and the teacher can determine if lessons should be suspended for a length of time or whether other material (such as theory) could be substituted. Fees will be carried forward to the time of the students return.

Sports Activities

Keynote Music understands that other activities may interfere with the students music education and will attempt to adjust the scheduling if possible. In this case we must know the students schedule as soon as it is posted, preferably at the lesson the week before. Last minute lesson cancellations cannot be credited or made-up for sports activities.

Single Lesson Booking

Where a student's schedule is unpredictable single lesson bookings may be made. Phone and book a lesson. When you attend the lesson a fee must be paid before going into the lesson.

Each student is different and is best judged by the student and/or the parent. Outlined herein are some general ideas based on the average student you may wish to consider.

A continuous musical education is advisable especially for the beginning student.

Music, as with other subjects must be continuously used to maintain any level of proficiency.

A "break" from lessons can be refreshing; but student and parent must understand that the initial lessons will be spent recovering lost proficiency.

When other activities have been cut back such as no school or after-school activities significant progress or affirmation can be made in music such as over the summer vacation.

Keynote Music makes every effort to be fair and understanding as regards its policy on missed lessons.

The student/parent courtesy of notifying Keynote Music if lessons are being discontinued for any reason (no questions asked) or any length of time is appreciated.

If necessary a change in this policy will occur; without prior notice.

If you have any questions regarding this or any other Keynote Music policy please

contact the Owners/Managers; Reg or Darlene Taylor.
